My accent

This quiz isn't very accurate, but decide for yourself...

What American accent do you have?
Your Result: The Midland

"You have a Midland accent" is just another way of saying "you don't have an accent." You probably are from the Midland (Pennsylvania, southern Ohio, southern Indiana, southern Illinois, and Missouri) but then for all we know you could be from Florida or Charleston or one of those big southern cities like Atlanta or Dallas. You have a good voice for TV and radio.

The Cards win it!

This was a great World Series. It seems like everyone on the Cardinals' team pitched in to help them win it. Eckstein definitely deserves the MVP. I wish Pujols had hit better, but with all the other players stepping up, it wasn't as crucial that he did. I'm already looking forward to next season!

Pics from surgery

Here are a few pics... two of me before the surgery, one of me after the surgery, and one of some flowers my team at work sent me today.

I was on some "feel good" drugs before the surgery, so I look a little groggy.

I am completely knocked out.

The flowers are beautiful and certainly brightened my day!

Gall bladder surgery was successful

Yesterday morning I had my gall bladder removed. I was in at 6:30 and out by 10:30.

The surgery went very well. I remember them rolling me into the surgery room and telling me they were going to give me something to make me fall asleep. The next thing I knew, I was waking up in the recovery room.

Waking up was really difficult for me. I was very woozy from the anesthesia and it was difficult for me to breathe. I took a few wheezing breaths before I was finally able to catch my breath. I was also very sleepy. I was hoping they'd let me stay in the recovery room until the anesthesia wore off, but they wanted me to leave and start my recovery at home.

They told me to take a pain pill when I got home, but I couldn't take a pain pill on an empty stomach, and I didn't want to eat because I was in so much pain. Just drinking water made me feel nauseous, so I knew I didn't want to try to eat anything. So it was a catch-22. I ended up sleeping until 4:30 that afternoon, which is when I finally ate some chicken noodle soup and took a pain pill. After all that, the pain pill didn't even help! Fortunately, it didn't make me nauseous, which I was worried about.

I've been in my bed ever since I got home yesterday with the exception of a few trips to the bathroom and some walks up and down my hallway. The nurse told me to walk when I can to avoid blood clots.

Today I am even more sore than yesterday and the pain is over a larger area than yesterday. Yesterday I only hurt where my gall bladder had been. Today I hurt there, and at all of the incision points. Plus, my back hurts today. I've taken some Tylenol Extra Strength today, thinking it might work better than the pain pill, but I haven't really noticed a difference. I might try taking another pain pill later to see if it works today.

Bob has been so great to help me get out of the bed and bring me food and water. I wouldn't be able to do this without him!

I'll probably stay in my bedroom the rest of today and try to go downstairs sometime tomorrow. I definitely don't think I will go down today.

The surgery went about how I expected it to go, but I didn't expect to be in this much pain. Everyone I talked to said it was an easy surgery to recover from. Ummmm... I beg to differ. :-)

A lot going on!

Boy, it's been a busy week!

Saturday Bob and I drove down to Harriman, Tennessee, for Debra Achenbach's wedding (one of my college roommates). That afternoon we started on our way to Pennsylvania. We spent the night in Staunton, Virginia. Sunday afternoon we arrived at my sister's house.

Monday we went to the King of Prussia Mall with Sally and Mason. Sarah and Daniel drove over from Massachusetts that afternoon. We had a cookout that evening with lots of good grub (chicken and steak kabobs, corn pudding, and mashed potatoes).

Tuesday morning we drove to Carlisle, PA, to attend Bob's brother's promotion to Colonel at the US Army War College. The rest of that day we spent hanging out with his family.

Wednesday afternoon we toured Fallingwater, which is probably the most famous house architected by Frank Lloyd Wright. Afterward we drove to the temporary memorial for the Flight 93 victims of September 11th. That night we stayed in Monroeville, PA.

Thursday we drove up to Pittsburgh. We rode the Duquesne Incline railcar that morning and spent quite a bit of time driving around. We got back to Lexington around 8:30 that night.

This was such an awesome, relaxing trip... especially Wednesday and Thursday when there really was no agenda... just Bob and I driving around defining our days. Wish it could have lasted a little longer!

Here are a few pictures taken at Sally's. I'll post lots more pictures and more details of the trip later!!

Last weekend Bob and I travelled to Jackson, TN, to visit my mom. While we were there, we went to Becky's new house, visited my grandpa in the nursing home, and had dinner with my mom, Becky, Drew, Andy, Joy, Mike, Staci, and Wayne. Here are some of the pictures from the weekend. Enjoy!!

Oh, yeah... the sink

Forgot to post a picture of the new sink in the half bath. The installer cracked the pedestal when he was taking it out so he had to replace it. I like the chrome faucet (individual hot/cold handles instead of one).
