Wednesday I had a gall bladder scan (called a HIDA scan). It took just a little over an hour, although I was told it would take 3-4 hours. The nurse at my doctor's office called Thursday to let me know the scan uncovered "some abnormalities" so I'm off to see a surgeon (Dr. William Walton) in June. Fun. I'm not really looking forward to surgey, but if that's what it takes to help my gall bladder, I'm up for it.
Thursday night Bob and I went to the Marriott Griffin Gate to see John Stossel speak about the American public school system. Although neither of us have children, it was an interesting talk and, of course, it was cool to see him. I was surprised how shy and reserved he is. I always thought that someone who spends his career in front of a camera must be gregarious and extroverted, but it was obvious he isn't. His speech was much like one of his reports on 20/20. Afterward he took a few questions from the audience. His main point was that parents should be able to choose which school their kids go to, and the federal money allotted for each kid should go to the school the kid attends. This would cause the schools to compete for the kids and would therefore naturally increase the quality of education the schools provide just as competition in business causes businesses to produce better quality goods and services. I wonder what my parents (both teachers) would think of that?
Last night I had dinner with Debra and some other friends to celebrate Debra's birthday, which was on the 22nd. We ate at Johnny Carino's (tasty!). The 22nd was also my 6th anniversary as a "regular" employee at Lexmark. Prior to that, I was a "contractor" for almost 2 years.
In other news, Bob's parents are coming into town tomorrow for a 50th wedding anniversary reception at the Springs Inn. They'll probably stop by my house to pick me up. It'll be the first time they've seen my house, so I'm cleaning today. In fact, I should be cleaning now but am using an update of my blog as an excuse to procrastinate. :-)
